Notes:  The initial concept for this track was modelled upon Jimi Hendrix’s “Machine Gun” which utilised the snare drum to replicate the sound of a machine gun.  I saw a live video Hendrix playing this song at a concert and it stuck with me for many years.  I had written the beat for this about one year before finding any sort of lyrical inspiration.  For a long time I had only written one lyrical verse for this track until the uprisings in Libya and Egypt were splashed across the evening news.  Also within the same week I had met a guy in the army while walking my dog who offered a very interesting perspective of these events.  This proved to be all the inspiration that was necessary and the rest of the song came together in one night.  This is definitely one of my favourite tracks in terms of content and technique.  I even tried my hand at singing on this one!

Production Techniques:  One of the first times I had used layered vocals and I was very excited to find that the sound I had produced was exactly as I had imagined it.  Simple vocal arrangement s that are panned wide on the hook and chorus with a single vocal track down the centre for the verse.  My favourite instrument is the sick sounding guitar solo towards the end.  I used some FX to create the “sounds of war” in the whistling fade out.  The track is otherwise simple use of synths.

Lyrics:

Libya, Tunisia, Egypt

Countries are rising up to overthrow leaders

Everyday people are screaming and stressed

Peaceful protest and cop a bullet in your chest

Mubarak and Gaddafi and other regimes

Crumble like we saw Afghan and Iraqi’s

The west promise to implement democracy

And send their people to their death to fulfil the deed

Political support, mobilise the war

Organise some time on 60 minutes ‘bout it all

Sitting in your office, deep in the fort

Give the generous offer of your people and support

Keep your hands clean and glamorise it all

Look sad when they die on the news report

When you get called, act like you’re appalled

And go to bed like it never happened at all

We fight with our life

We fight for what’s right

We fight through the night

We fight for your life

We fight with our life

We fight for what’s right

We fight through the night

We fight for your life

March to our death as we open fire

March to our death as we open fire

March to our death as we open fire

March to our death as we open fire

March to our death as we open fire

March to our death as we open fire

March to our death as we open fire

March to our death as we open fire

We march to our deaths as we open fire, then we play the game

We hear their words meant to inspire and let them wash our brain

Our lives are worthless over time we’re treated all the same

And fight against some other guys who don’t have much to gain

Hear the guns attack, they go rat-tat ta-tat

They’ll make you think about going on that ground attack

Well I didn’t crack, and I’m not playing that

Not gonna take me home? Well I’m swimming back!

Give a fuck about policy?  I’m gonna get killed

Who the fuck is gonna pay all my bills?

I got a young wife and kids, you must be pretty skitz

If you think I’m leaving for this bullshit

We fight with our life

We fight for what’s right

We fight through the night

We fight for your life

We fight with our life

We fight for what’s right

We fight through the night

We fight for your life

March to our death as we open fire

March to our death as we open fire

March to our death as we open fire

March to our death as we open fire

March to our death as we open fire

March to our death as we open fire

March to our death as we open fire

March to our death as we open fire

We fight with our life

We fight for what’s right

We fight through the night

We fight for your life

We fight with our life

We fight for what’s right

We fight through the night

We fight for your life
